Van Dyck Park

I grew up in the City of Fairfax and one of the great memories I have from my childhood was going to Van Dyck Park, which was near my house. The park is off Old Lee Highway, right across the street from my elementary school (Layton Hall, now renamed Daniels Run). I remember that the park had some large slides, tons of swings, and a tilt-a-whirl. I remember playing on the grass tennis courts, flying kites in a field, and spinning on the tilt-a-whirl as fast as my brothers and I could go.

One warm Saturday morning, Stephanie, Abigail and I decided to go check out Van Dyck Park. It had probably been about 20 years since I last visited the park, but a lot of it still looked the same.

This car is new
Most importantly, Abigail seemed to really enjoy playing here. We spent a lot of time exploring the different equipment, but the swing is always one of Abigail's favorites. She did great on the "big girl" swing.

Such a big girl
We even found the old tilt-a-whirl that I remembered. Judging by the faded paint, it was probably the same one. Ever the daredevil, Abigail had no problem going for a whirl.

Is this an antique???

Sharing experiences from my wonderful childhood is one of my favorite things to do with Abigail. And when there is a beautiful woman hanging around too, I can't complain.

Life is good!
