Big Change!!!

We all know that Abigail is obsessed with her pacifier. If it is not clipped to her shirt, she is asking for it. Before Abigail was born, Colin and I thought we did not want to be one of "those parents" whose child takes a pacifier. And then....Abigail was colicky. For almost 4 months. Ugh! Any parent of a child who has had colic will attest that they would do ANYTHING to calm their child, even if it is just for a minute. What was soothing to Abigail, was/is the pacifier.

This is how she put them on and was walking around! So funny!
Colin and I knew the day would come when we would need to get rid of it. We tried several months ago and we were all MISERABLE!!! And then it became a series of "After ____ (fill in the blank) we'll get rid of it." Well, ladies and gentlemen, that day has arrived. Abigail and I were at the playground yesterday and there was this boy who was several years older than Abigail STILL using a pacifier. I came home and thought....it is time. Colin and I need to talk about getting rid of this thing. Although hesitant, we were both on board. Our new rule is no pacifier except for when she is sleeping. So yes, she still gets it, but only when she goes down for a nap or to sleep at night. We have worked SOOOO hard at getting her to sleep through the night so we aren't willing to mess that up just yet. We are crazy, but we aren't THAT crazy!!!
We were/are both nervous. We know meltdowns will occur (and have occurred). She asked for it SEVERAL times throughout the day and it breaks our heart because she doesn't understand. BUT we are 1 day down with no binkers. Progress! Yay!!!!!! Fingers crossed we all survive the weekend without too many tears!!!

  1. LOVE the mysterious, Hollywood look with the sunglasses!! Good luck with the pacifier. In the scheme of things, it is not a big deal ( except for the teeth according to the dentist!!) Her Dad had one that he loved, and I think you would say that he turned out okay!!

  2. I know this really hard on everyone, especially our precious grandbaby! But hopefully with time, it will get easier. Abigail's "binkers" was like her security blanket.....which she definitely needed during the past months!!! I can't wait to give my angel a kiss from Nana!
